Dear Florida Healthcare Simulation Alliance Member,

Many of you may have been wondering about the status of the Florida Healthcare Simulation Alliance (FHSA) with the recent announcement regarding the suspension of the group. Originally, FHSA was formed as a 'grant project' within the Florida Center for Nursing (FCN) with the intent of becoming a self-sustaining organization through memberships and conferences. Unfortunately, we were unable to reach our goal of becoming a financially independent organization, and due to the recent legislative decision to reduce FCN funding, FHSA can no longer be supported by FCN.

The good news is that the FHSA Steering Committee and regional leaders recognize the benefits of a state-wide alliance of simulation operators and facilitators as an avenue of networking and education! This group has worked all summer in conjunction with the FCN leaders to provide a viable option to maintain FHSA.

After looking at many options, the FHSA leadership group has determined our best option for a successful transition is to apply to become an Affinity Group within the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) because our missions align nicely. Affinity groups are comprised of both SSH members and non-members with specific interests in a particular area of simulation... in our case it will be Simulation in Florida, (maintaining the same mission of our original FHSA). After the formation of the Affinity group, the FCN will release our web site, courses, and possibly the Alliance name for use as a separate entity. The application process is currently in the works!

We are reaching out to discover your interest in continuing with FHSA as the organization moves forward on this path and to solicit your support. Please let us hear from you... your thoughts and your interest in actively supporting the new FHSA Affinity group. We also need to know if you are already a current member of SSH, so we can meet the minimal SSH membership requirement for the Affinity application. Please contact us at FHSA.InterestGroup@gmail.com

More information will be shared soon as progress is made. Thank you so much for your membership and continued support. We look forward to collaborating with you and networking with you as we move forward with the exciting future of FHSA!

On behalf of the Leadership group,

Denise Cochran
FHSA Steering Committee Chair

The mission of the FHSA Leadership group is to advance, coordinate, and expand the use of all forms of simulation in academic settings, healthcare institutions, and agencies across the state in an effort to enhance simulation education and foster patient safety. FHSA serves as a resource, facilitating collaboration, networking, and the formulation of best practices in simulation education that cultivates the safe practice of patient care.
